Our Virtue this month: Perseverance This month we listened to two songs about perseverance:
We also practiced the song "Highway of Heroes" by The Trews in preparation for our Remembrance Day assembly. Ask your child to show you the actions for the chorus. The following is a breakdown of our activities for this month: Grade Three Our focus was on exploration of form (the structure/sections of music) through movement using the song "March of the Goblins" by Boris Berlin. In the coming weeks we will be playing xylophones and rhythm instruments to accompany the song as well as reading the form and the music symbols on the written score. Grade Two Our focus this month was using speech and instruments for the chant, "Early in the Morning". Students reviewed posture, positioning and playing for the xylophones as well as holding mallets correctly while playing. In the coming weeks we will be singing winter songs and carols, both in French and English. Grade One This month we focused on the concept of Rhythm (steady beat) and the skill of playing an instrument. We are saying the chant "I Think Music's Neat" to show steady beat (movement and pre-notation). From this, we will be working towards rhythmic notation (e.g. quarter/eighth notes). Also in weeks to come we will be using instruments to accompany a familiar story as well as singing winter songs/carols, both in French and English. Kindergarten Students have now learned all four families of rhythm instruments. They are: woods, skins, metals, and shakers/scrapers. We will continue to use these instruments to accompany our songs and stories in the coming weeks. At present, we are practicing listening to and clapping the syllables (rhythm) in our first name. We are also playing the "Colour Game", a movement-based activity, which focuses on watching a "conductor". Lastly, we are finishing up a story called "The Quiet Book"; our next book will be "The Loud Book". Ask your child to say the poem about our four voices ("This is my speaking voice, I use it every day...") MUSIC SHARE IS COMING! MUSIC SHARE IS COMING! Music Share is an opportunity for students in Grades One to Three to share their musical interests. This popular unit will begin in January(dates/times TBD).
