Here's a breakdown of what we did this month in Music:
KINDERGARTEN We continue to work on listening to and assessing the number of syllables (sounds) in our first names. We started with "Say and Clap" and have now progressed to "Think and Clap". A bit of challenge at first but victorious in the end! As an introduction to dynamics (quiet and loud), we read "The Quiet Book" and "The Loud Book" by Deborah Underwood. Great sound effects were provided by all classes :) "The Colour Game" was a movement-based activity where students had to recognize colour and movement changes. It was also an introduction to watching a "conductor". red = stop green = go yellow = jog blue = tiptoe orange = jump Seasonal songs (action songs) practiced in class were:
Next month: Winter, Bears GRADE ONE We completed our "Bonjour" partner work, complete with singing and moving. Students were always excited to see who they would end up with next after completing the turns. Steady beat work continued with "I Think Music's Neat". Next month we move into providing music syllables for our beats. The story of the "Gingerbread Boy" was read with sound effects provided for the animals. Afterwards, the students decided on instruments from the non-pitched percussion families (woods, metals, skins, scrapers/shakers) to support the story. Next month: Music Share, Bears, Steady Beat/"Ta" and "Ti-ti" GRADE TWO Partner work for the "Bonjour" song. See Grade One write-up above. The story of "The Nutcracker" was our focus this month. Some things we found out:
GRADE THREE We continued to explore the concept of form using the piece "March of the Goblins" by Boris Berlin. Pitched instruments were used to discover harmony (chords) as well as review playing skills. We learned info about one of "Instrument Bingo" instruments: The Harp. Next month: Music Share, music notation (written), Instrument Bingo Comments are closed.
